For many of us, the perfect garden is a place to relax and a haven of tranquility. What better than the sound of running water and moss-covered rocks to transport you away from the stress of daily life to the rural woodlands? Our hugely talented friends at TAW Garden Landscapes and Antony Lionel Garden Design have achieved just that with this exceptional garden. ‘Woodland Fall’ scooped Gold and Best in Show at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2021. Here’s how to bring a woodland feel to your garden…
Create a soft naturalistic look with your planting
‘Woodland Fall’ is planted with dense broad-leaves, a feathery mix of plants, including ferns, and boulders aged with moss. You can achieve this look by incorporating ferns and moss in your planting scheme. And place rockery stones discreetly in borders to add to the organic sense of place.

Use paving with a weather-worn finish
The Antique Yellow Limestone paving in this garden is an ideal choice because it’s half-honed, brushed and tumbled to give an aged appearance, and is available in patio packs for outstanding value.

Add running water
Like any woodland setting, your garden will spring to life with a water source. The rain wall cascading down moss and then running over Tumbled Yellow Limestone Cladding, and Scottish cobbles and pebbles is not only a delight for the eye, but gives the soothing ambiance of a bubbling stream.

Cocoon yourself with structure and height
This garden uses Larch fencing slats. These are great for privacy and can also be softened over time with climbing plants. By planting deciduous trees like these silver birch and cherries, you’ll have shade, seclusion and food for wildlife.

Create spaces to wind down
Dividing your garden into zones can help you make the best of use of space and the light at different times of day. As well as the bar area in this garden, there’s a cosy seating area round a fire pit, perfect for keeping the chill off once the sun goes down.
